A pole generally acts as a cantilevered structure, andshould be designed and analyzed as a tapered memberwith combined axial and bending loads. Because shearforces are small compared to bending moments, prestressedconcrete poles are very resilient. Axial loads aresmall, too, and are generally ignored except when thestructure is guyed.
